Practical Renewing of the Mind

Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things." (NASB)

The scripture tells us (in Romans 12:2) that we need to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. This is one concrete way we can do that. I
nstead of focusing on the bad news on the TV or the radio, instead of what we watched at the movie theatre that may have been sad or depressing, or instead of the ugliness we can see in ourselves or others, let us make a different choice. Let us focus on things that really matter - Truth, Honor, Morality, Purity, Loveliness, Good report, Excellence, anything we can praise people around us for - let us choose to make that our moment-by-moment emphasis.

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, put it within us to choose to keep in mind these good things, and renew our minds as we exercise ourselves in the effort.  Make us into the image of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray.  Amen.
